The 2008 USAPL Washington State Championships was held at the Holiday Inn in Issaquah, WA on March 15th. Meet Directors Richard Schuller and Bull Stewart put on another fantastic meet with 94 lifters participating this year! We saw many new faces and there were also numerous USAPL National and Washingtn State records set.

2008 Athlete of the Year and USAPL WA State Hall of Fame

Several people received awards for unique and outstanding accomplishments in the sport of powerlifting. The 2008 awards included 2008 Athlete of the Year and the USAPL WA State Hall of Fame.

Each year, nominations are submitted for these awards, and then voted on by current USAPL WA State Hall of Fame members.

The 2008 Athlete of the Year Award was presented to Ali McWeeny. Ali has re-wrote the records books, setting 19 state records from 2004 - present!! Ali has also been a role model for her peers through her lifting accomplishments and good sportmaship.

The 2008 WA State Hall of Fame Awards were presented by IPF Master's World Champion and Hall of Famer Paula Houston. The USAPL WA State Hall of Fame Awards are awarded to individuals who have made unique and outstanding contributions to the sport of powerlifting. This year's awards went to Faith Ireland and Todd Christensen.

Faith has won 5 National Powerlifting titles, is a multiple IPF World Team member, and is an IPF World Championships medalist! In addition to her awesome athletic achievements, Faith also spends her time working as a volunteer in the community. Faith has also served as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

Faith always displays grace under pressure, is a mentor to others, and is a role model on and off the platform.

Todd Christensen also got inducted into the Hall of Fame and also received an additional award for Coach of the Year. Members of Todd's team, the Pacific Powerlifters, attended to present the award to him.

Todd began lifting in 1974, competing in his first competition in 1980. Todd has lifted in close to 100 competitions!

In addition to his lifting accomplishments, Todd has coached over 3,000 athletes!! His athletes have won 25 USAPL National titles, numerous World Championship titles, and have set countless USAPL National and Washington State records. His team, the Pacific Powerlifters, also just won their first team title at the 2008 USAPL National Women's Championships.

Todd is always willing to help others when needed and has been an incredible contributor to the sport of powerlifting.
